 Τι νέα; Υποτιτλίζω law and order, απο΄κει και το τραγούδι αυτό. Το αγάπησα.

Κάνω και εργασίες για το Stanford, CA.

Κοίτα, δηλαδή για να εξηγούμαστε ατο φεστιβάλ είδα 10 ταινίες στο σύνολο. Αλλά βαριέμαι να τις κάνω ριβιού όλες, οπότε, αν μου'ρθει κάποια στιγμή, ίσως.

Θα σας δώσω μόνο μία γεύση του τι χάνετε, αν πιστεύετε πως το τιφφ είναι βαρετό... Το απόσπασμα είναι από την ταινία ACAB (all cats are brilliant) - Συγχαρητήρια στους Αισιόδοξους? της Κωνσταντίνας Βούλγαρη, μετά την προβολή, όπου το κοινό υποβάλλει ερωτήσεις στον σκηνοθέτη. Ετσι να δείτε τι ωραία περνάμε.

(review)

This is a film about human relationships and how they can be created, strengthened and maintained even between two completely different people.

Jane wants to decorate her room, so she buys a thermos from Sadie, an old lady who's having a yard sale to get rid of some of her stuff. Things take an interesting turn when Jane discovers a great sum of money hidden in the thermos and starts wondering whether she should return or keep it. Upon visiting grumpy, rude old Sadie, Jane decides to keep the money and help this woman in return. She starts off doing little errands, like taking Sadie to the supermarket or going to Bingo nights with her. She tries to get to know suspicious Sadie, who initially thinks Jane wants to rob her.

After a while, the two women develop a very strange but true relationship; one that can be described as purely friendly. Jane no longer stays at home after work. She prefers to spend lots of her free time with Sadie, also bringing her little dog Starlet with her, something that at first, Sadie reluctantly accepts but later welcomes.

Meanwhile, viewers also get the chance to see how a porn movie or scene is actually shot, as Jane and her roommate are porn stars. They can see what this industry is really about and through the characters of the film, the audience can finally realise how human they are.

The women's relationshion runs deep; so deep that Jane decides to spend all of the money on a journey of the two to Paris, Sadie's favourite place in the whole world. Nothing will ever come between this odd friendship. Not even money.

This film attempts to fairly portray all sides of people's idiosyncrasies and emotions.

Alata (Out in the Dark) - Έξω στο σκοτάδι

Alata (Out in the Dark) by Michael Mayer - 53rd Thessaloniki International Film Festival (Review)

This is the story of two young men, Nimer, a Palestinian Psychology student and Roy, a lawyer who fall in love and try to defy their countries' animosity and hatred. Of course, the terrible relations between Palestine and Israel are known to most people; however this is a completely different aspect of the matter.

The couple faces two major obstacles: one being the mere fact that they're gay and their nationality being the other. Despite hardships and public humiliation of homosexual people in both countries, they engage in a relationship and begin to seek ways allowing them to be together and safe. Everything is compromised when a Palestian friend of the two men, who illegally lives in Israel, is arrested by local police and sent back home where he is attacked and brutally murdered at his village. 

It is now Nimer's turn; Israeli police are willing to let him stay in the country and keep his "guilty" secret (of being gay) if he accepts to work for them by being their informant. In other words, they ask him to betray his family, friends and country. When he naturally says "no", he comes to realise that his student visa has been revoked and he has no right or authorisation to stay in Israel any longer. What is more, his secret is now revealed; his brother kicks him out of the house and the Israeli police are looking for him as he is considered a threat to national security. Roy sacrifices his career so that Nimer can have a chance of getting out of the situation alive and the couple promises to meet in France.

The end of the movie is rather ambiguous; I guess it depends on your personal view. Being a pessimist myself, I think that they are probably never going to meet again.

Even though the story of a gay couple being in great danger has been told before, it never seizes to be an ispiration to people who might see something new in the film.

Direction and script were very interesting. In a few words: Sentiment, humour, agony, injustice.

Kame Koummando

"Kame Koummando" του Μανόλη Δαμιανάκη, 53ο Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου Θεσσαλονίκης  Review

Δεύτερη ταινία που είδα στο Φεστιβάλ, η ταινία του Κρητικού σκηνοθέτη Μανόλη Δαμιανάκη, άφησε ήπιες έως αρνητικές εντυπώσεις. Ένας κύριος που παρακολούθησε την ταινία, είπε μετά το τέλος της πως ο κ. Δαμιανάκης είναι ο επόμενος Godard . Βέβαια, ο κύριος ήταν και συγχωριανός του.

Η ταινία αφηγείται με βασανιστικά αργό τρόπο το ταξίδι ενός ηλικιωμένου νεκρού ήρωα(;) στην Ελλάδα προκειμένου να την σώσει από την Τρόικα. Επί 78 λεπτά (που μοιάζουν αιώνας) βλέπουμε τον Κάμε Κουμάντο να περιφέρεται σε ένα μέρος της Κρήτης που κάποτε ήταν στρατιωτικές εγκαταστάσεις. Τον βλέπουμε να ανάβει φωτιές στην ύπαιθρο, να φωνάζει, να ψάχνει, να περιεργάζεται τον κόσμο. Μη φανταστείτε δράση, βέβαια. Οχι, αργά - σιωπηλά - ατελείωτα πλάνα.

Βρίσκει έναν αστυνομικό ο οποίος τον βοηθάει να πάει ως ένα σημείο, όπου εκεί κάτι τύποι με σκυλιά του κλέβουν έναν ασύρματο (με τον οποίο είχε επικοινωνία με τον έξω κόσμο, πλανήτη ή ό,τι άλλο προήλθε). Στο διάστημα της περιπλάνησής του, συναντάει ένα σκυλάκι, που επειδή κουτσαίνει, το πυροβολεί και το κηδεύει με στρατιωτικές τιμές.

Στο μεταξύ παρεμβάλλονται σκηνές όπου μία τύπισσα με καυτό ντεκολτέ (αλλά όχι ωραία) φωνάζει ότι ο Κάμε Κουμάντο άργησε και γέρνει το κεφάλι γελώντας σατανικά. Ίσως αυτή να είναι η Τρόικα, τι να πω. Πάντως ποτέ δεν συναντιούνται αυτοί οι δύο.

Η ταινία φτάνει στο τέλος της όταν έρχονται κάποιοι τύποι που φωνάζουν  "Μπράβο" "Εσύ θα σώσεις τη χώρα" και άλλα παρόμοια. Μπαίνουν σε μία εκκλησία, ανοίγει μία χωροχρονοπύλη (ή κάτι τέτοιο, έστω) και ο ήρωας φεύγει.

Κατά τον σκηνοθέτη, η Ελλάδα πρέπει να συνειδητοποιήσει τον σημαντικό ρόλο και τη θέση της στον γεωπολιτικό χάρτη του κόσμου και να αναρωτηθεί γιατί οι υπόλοιπες χώρες επιμένουν να μας έχουν σκλαβωμένους. Νομίζω πως η ταινία εμπνέει και προάγει τον πατριωτισμό και τον τοπικισμό μέσω των συμβόλων της, υπάρχει πολλή ελληνική σημαία και Χριστιανισμός. Τίποτα από όλα αυτά δεν μου αρέσει , προσωπικά νομίζω πως υποθάλπτουν τον εθνικισμό. 

Ο σκηνοθέτης,κύριος Μανόλης Δαμιανάκης, απαντά σε ερωτήσεις του κοινού

Έχω προαναφέρει πως ιδιαίτερες κινηματογραφικές γνώσεις δεν έχω. Απλά μου αρέσει το σινεμά. Ανέκαθεν μου άρεσε. Αυτές οι εκφράσεις τύπου "Ο Ταραντίνο συναντά τον Φριτς Λανγκ, ο σκηνοθέτης του Old boy πάει Hollywood" ή "Ο ρωσοπολωνός σκηνοθέτης, φανερά επηρεασμένος από την παράδοση των φιλμ νουάρ και σύμφωνα με τα χιτσκοκικά πρότυπα, δεν διστάζει να βασανίσει τον ήρωά του" δεν σημαίνουν κάτι για'μενα.Όχι γιατί τους περιφρονώ, αλλά γιατί πολύ απλά δεν τους προσέχω, ή έστω "πρόσεχα παλιότερα".

Η ταινία λοιπόν, δεν μου άρεσε. Αλλά από την αίθουσα δεν έφυγα. Το θεωρώ αγένεια.

Τελευταια ταινια για σημερα,η ταινια του Κωστα Ζαπα που αφησε το κοινο αφωνο (και κουφο).

Κινουμενη και αυτη, στο τριπτυχο οχι διαλογοι - κοντινα πλανα - μακρας διαρκειας πλανα, η ταινια "Uncut Family" η οποια εγκαινιασε το αφιερωμα ”Νυχτερινες Εικονες” του φεστιβαλ, αφησε ηπιες εντυπωσεις.

Οι 3 ηρωες,πατερας, μανα και γιος, βουβοι στο μεγαλυτερο μερος της ταινιας, ανοιγοκλειναν ματια, κοιτουσαν επιμονα, αναστεναζαν που και που αλλα κυριως, εστεκαν ακινητοι. Η μανα πανω στο πλυντηριο,ο γιος ορθιος, ο πατερας στην κουζινα. Και σα να μην εφτανε η πληξη αυτων των ατελειωτων πλανων, καθε λιγο παρεμβαλλοταν και ο εκκωφαντικος ηχος κατειλλημενου τηλεφωνου. Σε καποια στιγμη αρχισαν να βουιζουν τα αυτια μου.

Δε γνωριζω αν ηταν επιλογη του σκηνοθετη αυτος, οπως και αλλοι υπερβολικα δυνατοι,διαπεραστικοι ηχοι, παντως ηταν μια, επιεικως, ενοχλητικη επιλογη. Ο σκηνοθετης δεν ηθελε να κανει καμια δηλωση. Δεν ειναι το οτι δεν μπορω ταινια χωρις διαλογο. Εχω δει το Μοντεβιδεο. Οσοι το εχουν δει, καταλαβαινουν. Ειναι οτι και αυτη η τεχνη στην Ελλαδα βιωνει κριση. Οχι εξαιτιας της ελλειψης χρηματων, αλλα της ελλειψης εμπνευσης.

Νομιζω οτι το ελληνικο σινεμα πρεπει επειγοντως να βρει το δρομο του. Η κουλτουρα απο μονη της ειναι απλα μια λεξη. Δεν αναγει την ταινια σου σε τεχνη ουτε το αιωνιο πλανο, ουτε η απουσια λεξεων απο μονη της.

Clip - Klip (Στιγμιότυπο)

 This film is about a young girl, Jasna, who in her desperate efforts to forget about her dying dad, tries everything to feel better, including sex, alcohol and drugs. Living a rather meaningless life on the verge of depression, Jasna is willing to do anything to get the boy she is madly in love with (Djole). She provokes him, every way she can think of, just to get his attention and accepts being taken advantage of just to be with him for a few moments. Those moments are the only ones that give her joy and make her smile; hence she does not seem to care about anything else. Djole becomes the centre of her life, with her family seeming an obstacle, a distraction.

What Jasna will eventually find out is that under the surface, she is filled with sorrow about the forthcoming death of her father. What she has been trying so hard to ignore will come rushing back into her soul and mind; the excruciating pain of an imminent loss.

After drinking, doing drugs and having sex, she comes to realize that she actually cares about her father.  She can finally cry, without even wanting to. 

At first, her "boyfriend" sees her only as a sex toy, commanding her to do anything he pleases to. But in time, he starts having feelings about this weird girl that he does not want to admit. The couple ends up making up at a party after having a big fight.

Being vulgar and direct, this movie attempts to narrate and depict the story of confused and melancholic young people in Serbia and all around the world. Teenagers, who even at that young age, feel incomplete and miserable. Sometimes it's poverty, sometimes it's illness, sometimes it's death, it doesn't matter; depression is the result. Leading to the major question, why? Why do teenagers become depressed and feel like life's not worth living? Has life become such a burden nowadays? Do kids see something we don't?
